My Passion for Crochet
My interest in crochet started when I was a young elementary school student watching my mom crochet a shawl for hours and hours on a sunny summer afternoon. My grandmother was teaching my mom to crochet, and I was stubborn and refused to be left out. My grandmother taught me how to crochet a chain stitch, and I remember being really excited about it.
After what felt like an eternity trying to convince my mom, she finally took me to the store to get a skein of yarn and my very first hook. I was so excited that I ended up crocheting one chain stitch that stretched well over fifteen feet long. Once mastering the chain, I asked my grandmother to show me how to make the little bunnies she had made for me when I had first showed interest in crochet.
In the coming years, my interest grew as I realized how limitless my possibilities were. I was able to create unique items, that were one of kind and had been made just the way I wanted them. The new-found of creativity felt empowering and encouraging as I continued to feed my inspiration, learning new techniques and stitches. Soon implementing them into my newest projects.
My wonderful mom supported this hobby of mine later on, when I was in high school, by promoting me to her friends and coworkers. Without that experience I’m not sure I’d be here bringing these ideas to life. It brought me joy to watch something that I’d made, see use somewhere out in the world.
Curiosity guides my heart as I explore this passion I’ve rediscovered in the past few years, and I want to share the wonders curiosity has lead me to create with as many others as I can.
